My project began with primary research focused on the current social and educational landscape of women’s health, utilizing polls and interviews to gather insights. This research uncovered a knowledge gap regarding stigmatized topics, revealing that many individuals frequently learn about these issues through social media rather than formal education. This finding underscored the need for a more accessible and engaging approach to disseminating information on women's health.

In light of these insights, a social media-based campaign was conceived to address these identified educational gaps. A comprehensive social media strategy and style guide were developed, outlining the brand's identity and detailing the planned content for the social media accounts.

The next phase involved the creation of diverse social media content, designed to foster discussion and raise awareness on stigmatized topics. This content included mini-lessons, discussion starters, memes, and empowering quotes from influencers, tailored to resonate with the target audience of young women. Additionally, Instagram stories were crafted to promote events, present infographics, and share current news articles related to women’s health, enhancing the campaign's reach and engagement.

Finally, a physical display was curated for a BFA exhibit, designed to fit within a 4x4 space. This exhibit showcased printed materials and a promotional poster, complemented by a kiosk featuring digital content. Promotional sticker items were also distributed for free, creating an interactive experience that blended physical and digital engagement.

Creating HerTruth gave me the opportunity for full creative freedom on a topic I am deeply passionate about. The project covered all aspects of the graphic design process, culminating in a polished social media campaign. It was also my first experience curating a physical display to showcase my work. As my senior capstone, this project encapsulates the various skills I developed throughout my education, including typography, layout design, branding, market research, print design, and social media strategy. I’m grateful to my professor and classmates for their support and collaboration throughout this project.

Young women need open communication and dialogue about their health without stigmas because having a quality inclusive education empowers, builds confidence, and increases one’s agency. HerTruth is a social media campaign that tackles stigmas and misinformation in the women’s health community. This account will serve as a space that introduces and encourages new discussion points, clarifies misconceptions, and brings light to lesser-known issues to empower young women.

Promoting HerTruth through social media allows for increased reach and accessibility to promote its vision and mission. Instagram as an app is particularly valuable in advancing dialogue and discussion on stigmatized and nuanced topics as doing so amplifies voices, encourages participation, and disseminates information through rapid information sharing.
